musters in may
Thanks for your Gospel partnership! With your prayer and support, this month has been a fruitful season of ministry and growing. Apologies that this comes a little later than usual, I preached on the 1st and am preparing for preaching again on the 29th of this month. Here’s some highlights from May, and I’ve dropped some reflections and prayer points at the bottom.

but Christ is faithful over God’s house as a son. And we are his house, if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope.
I preached on Hebrews 3 this past Sunday, and throughout Hebrews it is very evident that Christ is greater over all things. My prayer for all of us is that we would continue to see Christ as the greatest, and Christ the faithful Son, that he would continue to be our confidence and our boasting in all seasons of life.
SMBC childen’s ministry conference
To kick off the month, I went with the kid’s ministry team at church to the SMBC children’s ministry conference. We were able to think hard about different ways to teach the Bible faithfully to kids, and it was a great way for us to sharpen our ministry! I was able to go to workshops which helped me to think about how activities in a kid’s program can help engage with the Bible much more than we do already, and how we can teach children to share the gospel with their friends. The conference was super valuable for me as I continue to be challenged with how I can grow in children’s ministry - it's definitely difficult yet rewarding gospel work.
METRO Christ college experience
As an apprentice in the Presbyterian church, I am sponsored through the METRO program and each year they have apprentices come to college to experience classes. I really enjoyed sitting in classes and seeing how and what the students learn, as well as what the campus looks like and what a week as a student looks like. I was encouraged to see how Christ college has thought very intentionally about graduate outcomes and teaching students to be deep theologically in both their knowledge and their leadership through their internship program. Their investment in the college gives me great confidence in the Presbyterian denomination to carry reformed ministry into the future.
reach Australia national conference
Reach Australia is a network of churches which work together to support the development of churches and their leaders. This year their national conference was on the topic of mission in the church and what changes are needed for our churches to continue to be faithful in global mission. We went as a staff team along with two student ministers and were all challenged to think about the part that mission plays in our church. Personally I was moved to think about how important mission is for my own heart and how I need to continue to do God’s work, to glorify him and to see people saved, by Christ and in faith. It also helped me with a lot of different ideas for how our church teams can work in a way which is faithful to God and his people, yet warm and welcoming for non-Christians to hear his word.
preaching from Hebrews 3
This actually happened on the 1st of June, but most of my preparation happened in May. Between conferences I found myself with less time for preaching preparation, but the second time around was more expedient! Preaching from Hebrews was easier than John, but it may be that getting familiar with the process and task has helped. I really enjoyed the exegesis and preparation, and had a lot of fun preaching at our 9am service. The big idea for my sermon was to “Find confidence in considering the Son”. You can listen to my sermon here.
reflections
- - Meeting students at college who are studying full time reminded me that I need to continue to consider if I’m suitable for full time ministry and what I might do in the future. It’s easy to get caught up in “doing stuff” and getting it done, but I want to continue to be reflective, and evaluating myself, and inviting others to evaluate my ministry, to consider whether full time Gospel work is a good fit for me.
- - Stopping to work on myself slows down immediate work but is great in the long run - going to conferences made me feel a little behind, but the input I got from other people in sharpening ministries has already paid dividends, and the things I’ve learnt will continue to be useful in ministry for many years to come! We have so many awesome opportunities for being equipped in Sydney which is a great privilege, and I’ll continue to take those opportunities while I can! Please also consider how you can be equipping yourself for ministry even when life is busy.
- - Team leading is hard and largely unseen. As I’ve made myself more involved in a few different teams as a leader, I’ve found myself thinking through a lot of different scenarios and theological implications of how these teams function, but when it comes to execution a lot of those things aren’t as visible. Being a leader is often like being a coach on the sidelines, so I’m learning to remind myself that in this capacity the ministry is to the team first, and learning to love seeing the people on these teams serve God faithfully!
- - I have a lot to grow in for kid’s ministries. I’m not great at capturing the attention of a group of kids, and I’m finding it hard to manage a group of pre-schoolers for kid’s church. I often feel like I have a lot to learn when I look at my team. Pray for me to persevere in faithful service and growing myself in doing kids ministries, and pray that I wouldn’t be disheartened when comparing myself to many years of experience but rather praise God for the wisdom I can learn from!
prayer points
- - A heart for the lost: As I continue in my apprenticeship I've found myself surrounded with a great number of Christian friends, but pray that I'd continue to persevere in relationships outside of church. Praise God for a few opportunities last month where I've been able to witness to old work friends and my own family, and pray that those opportunities would keep coming and that I'd use them well.
- - Holiday kid's club: I'll be working on board with the kid's ministry team to help lead our holiday kid's club happening in the winter school holidays! It already seems to be a large project, pray that I'd be able to manage my time well, and pray for the many kids including many non-Christian families who we will be engaging with.
- - Preaching preparation: I'm preaching for the second time this month on the 29th of June on Hebrews 6. You're welcome to come to our 11am service! Pray for my time as I prepare, and pray that I'd be bold in inviting friends and family to come along.
- - Becoming parents: please pray for us as we're expecting in early August and still making preparations. It's a busy season and I feel like I'll never be ready until the baby comes! Pray especially that our child will know and love Jesus for all of life!
🙏 Thank you again for your partnership in the gospel! Shoot through a message when you've prayed (even if it's just a "hey!") and let me know how I can be praying for you also!
